William A. "Bill" Noy

William Alois Noy, age 85, of Mankato and formerly of Vernon Center, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Vernon Center. Burial will be in St. Matthews Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday with a 1:45 p.m. prayer service at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be given to St. Matthews Catholic Church, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

William was born April 29, 1928 to Alois "Al" and Mathilda "Til" (Kateman) Noy in Mankato. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1945. He then attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Borneke on February 7, 1948 at All Saints Catholic Church, Madison Lake. Bill and Shirley farmed in the Vernon Center area, raising five children. Their two sons joined in the grain and livestock farming operation. Bob, and Daves son Alan, continue his legacy of farming. He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association, Beef and Pork Producers, and Amboy Snowbirds Snowmobile Club. Farming, golfing, snowmobiling, playing cards and dancing were favorites. During the fifties he especially enjoyed flying his airplane.

Bill worked hard and played hard, always with a smile on his face. Whether he was in Minnesota or wintering in Arizona, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave him great joy.

William is survived by his wife, Shirley; four children, Connie (Jeff) Hackett of Sioux City, IA; Janel (Wayne) Hoffman of Surprise, AZ; Lynn (Dave) Bartsch, Bob (Sanda) Noy; daughter-in-law, Jacque Noy all of Vernon Center; twenty three grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Hackett, Marie (Joey) Plueger, Mitchell Hackett, Ben (Beth) Hoffman, Sarah Hoffman, Johanna (Aaron) Hislop, Alan (Holly) Noy, Carole Morey, Mariah, Jon, Ben, Ava, Lynae Noy, John (Crystal) Bartsch, Lisa (Morgan) Long, Will (Stephanie) Bartsch, Laura and Beverly Bartsch, Brian (Evi) Noy, Brad and Tom Noy, Becca (Nic) Haller; twelve great-grandchildren, Brooke, Anna, Bode, Courtney, Vanessa, Mikhail, Brielle, Alessandra, Brandon, Maysa, Keeley, Olivia; sister, Mary Ann (Harold) Tonn of Winnebago; two brothers-in-law, Maurice Crowley of Madelia, Don Borneke of Janesville; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gray of Redwood Falls; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

William was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers in infancy; son, David in 2010; grandson-in-law, Joey Morey; two great-grandchildren, Abel Noy and Emerson Bartsch; two sisters, Ann Mendenhall and Agnes Crowley; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Borneke; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Mendenhall and Bob Gray.
