Monica C. Scheurer, 62, passed away on December 22, 2013, at her Harry Meyering Center home.

A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2013, at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Memorials are preferred to Harry Meyering Center or MRCI.

Monica was born December 6, 1951, to Clement and Anastasia (Leonard) Scheurer of Mankato, MN, the youngest of nine children. Monica's diagnosis of Downs Syndrome brought her family together in her care and raising. Her parents and siblings became advocates for and active in groups and services for the mentally handicapped.

Monica spent the summers of her youth at home at Lake Washington where she especially enjoyed boat rides, playing in the water, bowls of buttered popcorn, hot fudge sundaes, sunshine, hugs, and lots of love. In her adulthood she enjoyed camps and outings with her fellow residents and beloved caregivers. Her family is grateful to the Harry Meyering Center staff and to the MRCI vocational and service programs who worked so hard to enrich Monica's life, and to hospice and to the many dear friends who eased her last days.

Monica is survived by her brothers, Brother Thomas Scheurer, CSC, of Notre Dame, IN, Mark (JoAnn) Scheurer, Daniel (Sylvia) Scheurer, Paul (Bev) Scheurer, all of Mankato; her sisters, Jane Trondsen of Mankato, Sister Katherine Scheurer, SSND of Good Counsel, Sister Mary Scheurer, SSM of New Jersey, and Connie (Jim) Rovney of Mankato. Monica is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
