Jean Marie Ward, age 73, longtime resident of Mankato, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Joannes House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, FL, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marysburg, 27528 Patrick Street, in rural Madison Lake. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be sent in lieu of flowers to the Joannes House at Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs, FL, 34135.
Jean was born on October 4, 1940, in Jamestown Township, Blue Earth County, to Ambrose "Sam" and Helen (McCall) Kopp. She graduated from Mankato West High School in 1958. Jean married her high school sweetheart, Larry Ward on September 26, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York. She was a longtime member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Jean retired in May 2001 after 34 years from Piper Jaffray as a stock broker. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. Jean enjoyed traveling, spending time at her winter home in Bonita Springs, FL and most of all, Jean loved spending family time with her children and grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry Ward of Madison Lake; daughters, Theresa (Steven) Erickson of Lake Winola, PA and Kristine (Terry) Keene of Tucson, AZ; sons, Richard Ward of Madison Lake and Minh Tran of Inver Grove Heights, MN; grandchildren, Kyle, Stacy, Nicole, Shimecca, Andrea, Cole, Jordan, and Sam; sister, Patricia (Jim) Genelin of Tomahawk, WI; sisters-in-law, Joanne Warner, Janice (Dean) Gilman, Jane (Merle) Volk and Joyce Reinhardt; brother-in-law, Billy (Sandy) Ward; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Keith Kopp; sister, Eileen Harty and her husband, Dean; and brother-in-law, Merle Warner.
