Donald E. Felch, age 88 of Mankato, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at Laurel's Peak Health Care Center in Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Pastor John Petersen officiating. Burial with military honors with be held at 10:15 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Donald Eugene Felch was born March 24, 1925 to Leland and Borghild (Highum) Felch in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Following high school Don served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater where he was wounded during his service. Don received his BS Degree and Principals Certificate 1965 from Mankato State College. He later earned his Master's Degree in Education and Counseling from Mankato State College. Don worked for District 77 in North Mankato Jr. High and later at East High School before retiring in 1989.
He was married to Pauline Roy on September 5, 1970. Following her death in 1992 he married Addeline Christensen on February 4, 1995 in Phoenix, AZ. She died in 2006.
Don was a lifelong member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, also a member of the Sons of Norway and the Riverblenders. He enjoyed singing, wood carving, and was a sports fan.
Don is survived by three step-sons, Robert (Vicki) Roy of Burnsville, MN, James (Debbie) Roy of Mankato, Rick Christensen of Pahrump, NV; two step-daughters, Becky (Bob) Miller of North Mankato, Kathleen Christensen of Mankato; half-sister, Janet (Lowell) Erickson of Hopkins, MN; half-brother, Robert (Bonnie) Lucas of Colorado Springs, CO; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and step-son, Paul Christensen.
