Harold J. "Harry" Haefner, age 86 of Mankato died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Primrose Assisted Living.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Ted Hottinger, S.J. , officiating. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Memorials may be directed to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Harry Haefner was born September 20, 1927 to John and Clara (Scheurer) Haefner in Mankato. Harry enlisted in 1946 in the U.S. Army and went on to serve his country in Korea from 1947-1948. He attended Mankato Commercial College. On April 15, 1950, Harry was united in marriage to Donna Koll at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato and together they were blessed with four children. Harry was the proud co-owner of Haefner Auto Supply for 35 years. He was a dedicated member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion #11 and the VFW #950. Harry enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing guitar, and was proud to be a ham radio operator. He cherished the time he spent on his farm and at his cottage on Duck Lake.

Harry is survived by his wife, Donna, Mankato; his children, Lee (Jane) Haefner, Ridgway CO, Dana (Tracy) Haefner, Byron, MN and Julie Haefner, Mankato; 7 grandchildren, Katie, Emily, Samuel, Erin, Jessica (Zig) Kortuem, Jennifer, and Jeff; 1 great-grandchild, Cardi; brothers, George (Anne) Haefner, Arkansas; Eddie (Jean) Haefner, Hackensack, MN; sisters, Janet Nelson, Mankato; Ruthie Haefner, Mankato; Dee (Ron) Wright, Mankato; Audrey (Duane) Mettler, Madison Lake; sisters-in-law, Nila Haefner, Mankato and Phyllis Haefner, Madison Lake; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Harry was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, in February 2013; his parents; brothers, Walter Haefner, Lester Haefner, Ralph Haefner, Stanley Haefner, Clair Haefner, Denis Haefner; and sisters, Mary Kudrle, and Angie Bruns.

"Handsome Harry" with his smile, personality, and love of life will be truly missed. He was truly larger than life.
