Romaine G. (Olson) Schull, age 94 of Mankato, died Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Decoria Township, with Pastor Collette Broady officiating. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday and continue until the time of the service at church. Burial will be in Decoria Cemetery in Decoria Township. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Romaine Geneva was born March 21, 1919 to Sigfred and Anna (Carlson) Olson in Jackson County, MN. She was the third of five children. Romaine attended the Mankato Teachers College, met and was married to Edwin Schull on July 16, 1944 in Blue Earth County. Together they were blessed with two children, Annette and John.
In 1949 the family into the home they built on the corner of Ninth and Carey in west Mankato. Romaine substituted in Mankato District 77 schools, and continued her education at the college. She also was a department manager at Madsens Value Center for many years. She received her Bachelors degree in 1968.
The family built and moved into a new home at Maple Hill in 1955. They lived there for 31 years. They were great campers and travelers. Weekends were spent with 3 trailer clubs, and summer vacations were spent in Colorado. In 1968, Romaine became a librarian in the Mankato School District 77 and continued there until her retirement. She and her husband spent winters in a travel trailer in Florida, Texas, and Arizona. She enjoyed friends, reading and sewing counted cross-stitch.
Romaine spent 13 years are Primrose Retirement Community.
Romaine is survived by six grandchildren, Kevin (Ann) Maslakow, Kim Dalton, Kristin (Loren) Vogelsang, Koreen (Todd) Borwege, Beth (Chad) Woods, Emily (Alek) Nelsen; son-in-law, Michael Maslakow; daughter-in-law, Mary Schull; sister, Ruth (Alfred) Gerke; sister-in-law, Alice Olson; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Romaine was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin in 2003; daughter, Annette Maslakow in 1990; son, John in 2011; grandson, David Schull in 1973; three brothers; and 1 sister.
