Jerry Gohla, age 89, of Mankato, died on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Monsignor Douglas Grams and Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Hospice and Veterans Administration.
Jerry was born on October 17, 1923 in Mankato to Frank and Genevieve (Conway) Gohla. He graduated from Loyola High School. He was a pilot in the Army Air Corp. during World War II. On October 31, 1944 Jerry was united in marriage to Pearl Miller and they were married for 68 years. Jerry worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Mankato as a supervisor before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the various VFW and American Legions, and a member of the Caterpillar Club. Jerry was also a Boy Scout Master and helped start Camp Cuyuna. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, spending time at the cabin at Lake Frances for 45 years and spending winters in Texas for 10 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Pearl of Mankato; children: Mike (Carol) of Manchester, CT, Patricia Gohla of Minneapolis, Steve (Mardi) of Andover, Brad (MaryJo) of Elysian, Tom (Karen) of Mankato, and Ann (Randy) Hamman of Kasota; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kathleen Putrah, Francis (Grace) Gohla, and Carolyn (Bill) Quirk; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bob and Mary True and Fred Cain. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Richard Gohla, Mary Olson, Jean Ann Gohla, and Bernard Gohla.
