June (Sheady) Cummiskey, age 93, of Mankato, died on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Traditions of Waterville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary with a 4:45 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the MSU Education Department Scholarships.
June was born on January 7, 1920 in Minneapolis to James and Marvel (Freeman) Sheady. June graduated from Austin High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Mankato State in 1942. June was united in marriage to Cletus J. Cummiskey on June 5, 1948 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. June was a physical education teacher and taught in Barnsville, Le Sueur, Mankato High School, and Loyola before retiring. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, an active member and past president of St. John's CCW, and a past member of the parish council. She was also a member of the Mankato State Women, the Woman's Club of Mankato, MSU Alumni Association, MSU Emeriti, and the Loyola Hall of Fame. June enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Lake Francis and taking care of her flower gardens. She loved traveling with her husband and spending time with her family.
June is survived by her children, David (Jane) Cummiskey of Waterville, Jo (Tom) van der Hagen of Marshall, MN, Kay (Steve) Tice of O'Fallon, MO, Pete (Heather) of Kodiak, AK, Brian (Maggie) of Hamburg, MN, Dennis (Lisa) of St. Peter, MN, Dan (Cindy) of North Mankato, and Ann (Dan) Luebben of Waterville; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Sheady of Faribault; three nephews and 1 niece; and brother-in-law, Herb Cummiskey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus in 1999.
