James Sigfrid Nelson, age 76, of Madison Lake, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Waterville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2013, at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Interment will be in All Saints Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at the church and continues one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the All Saints Church fund for "installation of new steps' or donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Jim was born March 30, 1937, in Mankato. He was the son of Sigfrid and Helen (Prom) Nelson. Jim attended schools in St. Peter until moving to Madison Lake in 1952. He was a 1955 graduate of Waterville High School. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He was a farmer and also worked as a substitute rural mail carrier. Jim enjoyed auctions and was an active member of the Madison Lake Historical Society and Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Assn.

In August 1973 Jim was married to Collette (Nahlosky). They lived at Lake Washington where they were foster parents for twelve years. Jim is survived by step-son, Scott (Beth) Bennett, North Pole, AK and step-daughters, Becky (Dennis) Bork, Cold Spring and Sharon (Smitty) Smith, Seward, AK; and step-grandchildren, Tasmine, Travis, Jacob, Jenna, Mitch, Zack, Graham, Sarah, Riley; and 7 step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Carl (Dolores) of Sterling, IL, Bob of Janesville, Don of Madison Lake, and Paul of New Brighton; sisters, Helena Schmidt of Owatonna and Barb (Bob) Lamont of Madison Lake; brothers-in-law, Dick (Ann) and Bob (JoAnn) of Nahlosky, GA and Blooming Prairie respectively, also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Collette in 1995; parents; and brothers, Kenneth and Leonard.
