Cpl. David Christopher Sandmeyer, USMC, age 21, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N. C., died Saturday, May 4, 2013 as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Michael Kelly and Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5 " 8 p.m., Wednesday at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Marine Corps League, Forrest G. James Detachment #589, 410 McKinley Avenue, North Mankato, MN 56003.

Cpl. David Christopher Sandmeyer was born at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, MN on June 12, 1991, the son of Don and Maureen (Weiers) Sandmeyer. He attended local private schools and graduated from Mankato Loyola High School in June, 2009. After graduation he applied and was accepted to Minnesota State University " Mankato, where he planned to study Accounting. One week prior to classes starting, David withdrew from the university and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 24, 2010. He graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA on April 23, 2010. From there he completed the first phase of training to become an Electronic Countermeasure Technician at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, FL, followed by the second phase of training which he completed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, WA. David was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Cherry Point, N.C. David's first and only deployment was to Afghanistan in March of 2012. While there, he earned the honor of being named Marine of the Quarter in July of 2012. From Afghanistan he finished his deployment in Qatar in August of 2012. He returned to MCAS Cherry Point in October of 2012. He Served with Honor.

David enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad, his Chevy Silverado, his Harley, and spending time with friends and family; most notably his Marine Corps family in Cherry Point, North Carolina, Tony and Stephany Stillwell and their son Jaxin. He is a former member of Twin Valley Council Boy Scout Troop #111 and loved racing pinewood derby cars, which he built with his dad. He was an usher and member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Men's Club, a member of the Marine Corps League Forrest G. James Detachment #589, American Legion Post #11, and the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Squad.

David is survived by his parents, Don and Maureen Sandmeyer of Mankato; sister, Lisa Sandmeyer of North Mankato; maternal grandparents, Francis and Roselyn Weiers of New Prague, MN; many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Florine Sandmeyer, uncle, John Sandmeyer, and aunt, Ramona Sandmeyer.
