Barbara Diane Kalis, age 71, of Mankato, died peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2013, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church or Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato Hospice.

Diane was born on December 5, 1941, in Monticello. She was the daughter of Lloyd and Inez Lorraine (Robbins) Stussy. A lifelong resident of Mankato, Diane grew up in Wells. After graduating from Wells High School at 17, she moved to Mankato where she took business courses while working full time at Prudential Insurance.

Diane was united in marriage to Richard Lee "Dick" Kalis on September 16, 1961, in Waldorf. They settled in Mankato where they raised their two children. Diane worked for twelve years at a Mankato photography studio. In 1987, Diane enrolled at Mankato State University and began working in the school's university advancement division. She was promoted to special events coordinator, a position she retained after her graduation and held until her retirement in 2008. While there, her favorite experience was arranging graduation ceremonies that faculty, staff, and students would enjoy.

Diane and her husband, Dick celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at the Radisson Hotel in Bloomington. A member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Diane's deep religious faith helped sustain her unwavering strength and devotion to family as her illness progressed.

Diane was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Dick Kalis of Mankato; daughter, Tammora Kalis of Mankato; son, Todd (Hyeok) Kalis and their three children, Ethan, Ella, and Alexander of Lincolnshire, IL; mother, Inez Stussy of Wells; sister, Janice (Richard) Elster of Monterey, CA; brother, David (Lona) Stussy of Minneapolis; four aunts and three uncles; also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Stussy.
