Long time resident, Winston Grundmeier, 83, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Laurel's Peak.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato. Visitation will take place 4-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Mankato Mortuary as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Minneopa Cemetery, rural Mankato. In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to the Blue Earth County Historical Society.
Win was born November 15, 1929 in rural Nicollet County to Ernest and Glade (Ives) Grundemeier. Win graduated from Mankato High in 1948. He received his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from Mankato State in 1952; Masters Degree from Iowa State in 1954 and his Doctorate from Kansas State in the mid 1960's. After he earned his Masters, Win served in the Air Force at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico; followed by a number of years in the Air Force Reserves.
In 1959 Win began teaching at Mankato State University. He taught chemistry for 34 years. He served a term as Department Chair during his tenure. Win was very active with the MSU Science Fair and an MSU Contributor.
Win married Shirley Miller on June 30, 1963 in Mankato.
He was an avid stamp collector, history buff and author. Win also loved to travel, research genealogy and write about WWII. After retirement Win volunteered many hours for the Blue Earth County Historical Society.
Win is survived by his wife, Shirley Grundmeier of Mankato; children: Alex Miller of Mankato, Judy Brown of Mankato and Richard Miller of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren: Bonnie (Dale) Dahl, Tim Brown, Ryan (Nikki) Miller and Sara Miller; great-grandchildren: Gavin and Owen Dahl, and Ben Brown; sister: Joan Krummel of Mankato; brother, Alan (Judith) Grundemeier of Katy, TX; sister-in-law, Katherine McKelvey of Cleveland, OH; brother-in-law, David (Kerry) Evans of Iowa City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
