Alvin James Eichers, age 76, of Mankato died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. prayer service at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before service at church on Thursday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Memorials may be given to VINE, Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato-Hospice, American Cancer Society, School Sisters of Notre Dame, Loyola High School, or donor's choice.

Al was born January 12, 1937 to Aloys Michael and Pauline (Nusser) Eichers. Al's mother died when he was three years old and was raised by his father and maternal grandmother, Mary Nusser. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1955 and Mankato State College in 1959 with a B.S. Degree in Business. Al was united in marriage to Joan E. Erickson on August 22, 1959 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. After graduating, he went to work with his father at Eichers Construction. In 1969 he started the underground division for Lundin Construction, which later became SMC. Al served as President of the Minnesota Utility Contractors Association (MUCA) and retired as a Vice President at SMC in 2003. Al was a lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a charter member of the Mankato "Catholic Mafia", a pfeffer savant, a patient fisherman, an avid sports fan, and the most loyal friend you could ever hope to have. Bud and his wife, Joan, enjoyed traveling " especially winters in Florida and they loved to entertain family and friends at their summer lake cabin, "The Radisson on Madison." He absolutely adored his grandkids and will be watching over them from heaven with a twinkle from his beautiful blue eyes.

Al is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan of Mankato; son and his wife, Joel and Melissa Eichers of Chanhassen; two daughters, Ann Aas and her husband, Paul of Chanhassen, Christy Eichers of Minneapolis; six grandchildren, Kayla, Josie, Patrick, and Jack Eichers, Ellie and Sam Aas; two brothers, Delton Eichers and his wife, Helen of Spring Hill, FL and Curt Eichers and his wife, Janet of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Marcella; grandmother, Mary Nusser; sister, Mary (Hank) Lilien; sister-in-law, Joyce Eichers; mother-in-law, Gina Klitzke and father-in-law, Ernie Erickson.
