Beloved mother, sister, friend, and neighbor, Mary Louise (DeRusha) Foster of North Mankato, age 81, died of pneumonia Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Father Peter Nosbush, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue at 10 a.m. before the funeral mass on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mary Lou's much loved Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Mary Lou was born to Martha (Chapdelaine) and Thomas Earl DeRusha in Chicago, IL on February 7, 1932. Raised in St. Paul, MN, Mary Lou married John Francis "Jack" Foster at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in St. Paul on April 25, 1953, and moved to North Mankato in 1958. Always active in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mary Lou retired from the District #77 Media Center, and later volunteered for the Mankato Salvation Army.
Mary Lou loved to laugh. She enjoyed books, theater, playing cards, music, food, and marching bands. At family gatherings, she loved to stand back and revel in the noisy brood she (and Jack) created. She felt blessed and happy to have the family, friends and neighbors who surrounded her in Lower North Mankato for the last 55 years.
Mary Lou is survived by six children, Mickey (Dan) Johnson, Tim Foster (Bruce Schabell), Nancy (Bob) Theiler, Susan Foster (Dick Brewer), Jenny (Steve) Boldt, and Andy (Heather) Foster; eight grandchildren, Erin, Heather, and Marc Johnson, Katie and Anna Theiler, Ben Boldt, Sally (Erik) Qualley, Jack and Bennett Foster; three great-grandchildren, Addison Theiler, and Ezra and Elijah Qualley; her sister, Marcy Staples; as well as nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Tommy and Jimmy; and sisters, Earlene and Joan.
