Dorothy A. "Dot" Hughes, age 84 of Lake Crystal, passed peacefully to her eternal rest, Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Country Neighbors in Lake Crystal.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9 from 5-7 p.m. at the Lake Crystal Mortuary. A private family burial will be held at the Cambria Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Ann Gehrls was born on February 27, 1929 to William and Emma (Rieman) Gehrls in Slayton, MN. She graduated from Okabena High School and Mankato Commercial College. She worked as a secretary at SM in Mankato. Dot was united in marriage to Arlyn Hughes on June 19, 1954. They farmed in the Lake Crystal area until 1980. Dot and Arlyn were the past owners of Shorty's Bar in New Ulm. Dot was a member of the Cambria American Legion Auxiliary and Holy Family Catholic Church in Lake Crystal. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid seamstress. Dot moved into Lake Crystal in 1997 and then into the Country Neighbors in 2007. She enjoyed all the activities provided there, games and cards.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Terri Henning-Wallace (Mike Wallace) of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Michael Henning of Staples, MN, Erin Henning of Minneapolis, RJ Wallace of Mankato and Taylor Wallace of Mankato; sister, Jean Lesch of Heron Lake; sisters-in-law, Arlene Walker of Lake Crystal and Irene Gehrls formerly of Lakefield, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Ken Gehrls, brothers-in-law, Loren Lesch and Glen Walker; and mother and father-in-law, John and Iva Hughes.
