George Duane Hemish, age 72 of Mankato, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato with Rev. Michelle Hargrave and Rev. Carol Zaagsma co-officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

George Hemish was born November 21, 1940 to Frank and Ida (Slama) Hemish in Marshall, Minnesota. George was united in marriage to Virginia Maker on September 24, 1966. He worked for 32 years at Kato Engineering. George was also self-employed mowing lawns and snow removal. George enjoyed fishing, small engines, and county fair tractor pulls.

George is survived three sons, Matthew Hemish, Reed (Rhea) Hemish, Jason Hemish all of Mankato; three granddaughter, Brooke, Rachel, and Sarah Hemish; seven siblings, Gordon (Doris) Hemish of Tracy, MN, Howard Hemish of Farmington, MN, Franklin (Barbara) Hemish of Tracy, MN, Ann Fechter of North Mankato, Shirley (Jim) Mlodzik of North Mankato, Joyce Jeffery of Madison Lake, MN Sandra Whitmore of Atlanta, GA; many nieces, nephew, and cousins.

Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 1987; sisters, Viola and Marian; brother, Archie.
