Monte Lee Piper, age 77 of Winnebago, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Parker Oaks Nursing Home in Winnebago.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Parker Oaks Nursing Home. Memorials are preferred to the Vernon Center Fire Department. Mankato Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Monte was born April 10, 1936, to Howard and Edith (Sinkler) Piper in Lovell, WY. The family moved to Wood, SD in 1940, then St. Paul, MN in 1941, and back to South Dakota in 1945. He worked for both the family business and ranching. In 1983, the Pipers moved to Vernon Center, where Monte had mowed lawns and worked odd jobs. Monte enjoyed westerns, cars, bicycles and visiting with friends and family.

Monte is survived by his nephew, Howard (Susan) Piper of Vernon Center; two nieces, Julie (Damon Frybarger) Eastman of West St. Paul and Rose (Lyle) Forst of Gibbon; and sister-in-law, Donna Piper of North Mankato.

Monte was preceded in death by his parents; brother, H. Ray Piper; and sister-in-law, Rosalie "Becky" Piper.
