Wayne William Thompson, age 82, of Mankato died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his home.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. John Petersen, officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Monday. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter.

Wayne was born November 11, 1930 to Rudy and Stella (Menk) Thompson in New Ulm, MN. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1949. Wayne served his country from 1950-1954 in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Statin Island, worked aboard an ice breaker, the USS Nipmuc in the Arctic, and boxed during his time in the Navy. Bill was united in marriage to Margaret Birr on September 19, 1959 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He worked at MN Valley Natural Gas, Komatz Construction, and Kato Engineering. Bill owned and operated Bill's Sanitation and Bill's Tree Trimming Service. He was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, American Legion, and the NRA. Bill was a master mechanic, he enjoyed working on old machinery and at the farm and loved fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Luke Harvey of St. Peter; daughter, Ruth (Mark) Klabunde and their son, Billy of St. Paul; son, William (Kristin) Thompson and their children, Trace, Rory, and Dorothea of Minneapolis; son, Louis Thompson and his children, Brock, Lyndze, and Kylee of Traverse; sister, Georgia Petersen of Sidney, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.
