Harlan Charles Runge, age 81 of Mankato, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.

Memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Pastor John Petersen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m., until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to BENCHS (Humane Society). Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Harlan was born June 14, 1931 to Theodore and Rosa (Fricke) Runge in Mankato, Minnesota. He graduated with the Class of '51 at Mankato High School. Harlan served his country in the US Air Force from 1951 " 1955 and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Harlan was united in marriage to Sylvia Lutter on April 15, 1966 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. He worked as a machinist for Midtex and North Star Concrete.

Harlan enjoyed fishing, woodworking, love of his animals (Peaches, Muffin, Gabby, Lucy, and Casper), Minnesota Sports teams, amusement park rides, and playing cards.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Sylvia Kay Runge of Mankato; children: Alan (Erin) Blanshan of Eagan MN, Dawn (Tom) Locke of Kuntz, TX, David (Jeanne) Runge of Fairmont, MN , and Cathy R. Neve of Mankato, MN; seven grandchildren, Cody (Katherine), Kelly (Nate), Bris, Cari, Mitch, Kaleb, and Sarah; two great-grandchildren, Kyra and Lily; brother, Bob (Jean) Runge of Hurstville, TX

Preceded in death by, parents, LeRoy (Joanne) Runge, and his beloved dog Gordy.
