Wallace Filholm Friday, age 86, of Lake Crystal and formerly of Mankato died Friday, June 7, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Greg Lenz, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Resurrection Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.

Wallace was born June 24, 1926 to Henry and Gudrun (Filholm) Friday in White, SD. In 1934 the family moved to a farm in Medo Township where Wally attended a rural school. Later, the family moved to the Lake Crystal area and he attended school and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1944. Wally served his country with the U.S. Navy as a Medic during World War II from 1944-46. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College. Wally was united in marriage to Mona M. Evans on August 1, 1948 at Centenary United Methodist Church, Mankato. He was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines in Madison, WI; the Sager Travel Agency in Madison, WI; and AAA Auto Club in Albert Lea and then Mankato until retiring after 20 years. Wally and Mona also owned and operated the Hub Caf" in Lake Crystal from 1966-67. Wally was a member of Bethel Masonic Lodge 103 of Lake Crystal and First Christian Church, now Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mankato. He sang in the church choir and was very active in the church. Wally enjoyed gardening, playing piano, singing, cooking, and classic cars.

Wally is survived by his wife, Mona of Lake Crystal; son: Mark (Sandy) Friday of Lake Crystal; two grandchildren, Brad (Tessa) Friday and their children: Jacob and Max of Lake Crystal and Jen Friday of Mankato; sister, Julienne Friday of rural Forest City, IA; brother-in-law, Henry "Bud" Evans of Mankato; sister-in-law, Donna Evans of Mankato; and nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy (Donald) Jacques; and parents-in-law, Mildred and Roy Evans.

Wally will be remembered as a gentle, loving, and caring man, who will be greatly missed by his family.
