Jerome Louis Hendrycks, age 89, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush, officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday with a 1:45 p.m., prayer service at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Traverse Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Jerome was born August 24, 1923 on the family farm in Mankato Township, Blue Earth County to August and Sidonie (Willaert) Hendrycks. He graduated from Rush Lake Country School. On February 1, 1951 he was united in marriage to Jenny VanderLouw at Holy Family Catholic Church, Lake Crystal. Jerry farmed in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County for 54 years before moving to North Mankato in 2005. Jerry farmed all his life but also worked for Green Giant harvesting peas and sweet corn, working at the foundry in LeSueur, and after his retirement in 1985 driving truck for UAP. He was still actively doing field work into his 87th year. Jerry enjoyed playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, listening to Polka music, long country drives, visiting with his many friends, and spending time with his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jenny; eight children, Paul (Louise Sturm) Hendrycks of Mankato, Chuck (Marjean) Hendrycks of rural Lafayette, Mike Hendrycks of Nicollet, Scott (Ruthie) Hendrycks of Searles, Mitzi (Bill) Arndt of Ottertail, DeDe (Del) Strassburg of rural Nicollet, Judd (Julie) Hendrycks of rural North Mankato, and Bruce (Ann) Hendrycks of Nicollet; twenty six grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Maurice (Marie) Hendrycks and Andrew (Dorothy) Hendrycks; two sisters, Selma (Bernard) Bergervoet and Mary (Joe) Sitterlet; father and mother-in-law, George and Wilhelmina (Bloenke) VanderLouw, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gertrude (Erick) Draeger, Reaka (Glee) Hayworth, Nellie (Floyd) Jones, Ray VanderLouw, Casey (Alice) VanderLouw, Hank (Vivian) VanderLouw, Jack (Millie) VanderLouw, George VanderLouw; and extended family.
