Mankato Mortuary
1001 N. River Front Drive
Mankato, MN 56001

The Lord of Life called Peter Mark Fleischer to his eternal home on January 29, 2013. Pete was born in Ripon, Wisconsin on February 5, 1942. Active and determined, Pete did not let the diagnosis of cerebral palsy define him. Pete lived believing that he could do all things through Christ who strengthened him.

Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pete graduated from Immanuel Lutheran High School and College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and also from Marion College in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in social work.

Pete worked in his chosen field as a career counselor, community service coordinator and various other positions. He also worked at the Eclipse Counseling Centor and the Mankato Rehabilitation Center. His love of people showed itself as he volunteered as a counselor in programs such as Big Brothers-Big Sisters, hospice care, chemical dependency and detox programs, March of Dimes, and many other organizations. He worked in sales for Bloedel Monument and for Fingerhut. He also worked for Wells Fargo Bank and for US Bank.

Pete's love for sports was well known. He played baseball in elementary school, served as an umpire for youth baseball games, and faithfully cheered for the Green Bay Packers. He would go every day to the health club to visit as much as to enjoy the whirlpool. He had his choice restaurants, if only to drink coffee and share a piece of pie with a friend, and he frequently knew the servers by name.

Pete's greatest pleasure revolved around his church life. Born into the family of Christ through baptism on March 1, 1942, Pete was always ready to witness to his faith in the Lord Jesus to friend and stranger alike. Pete's favorite scripture verse was 1 Corinthians 15:58 "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."

While living in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin he was a member of Luther Memorial church. When he moved to the Mankato area he became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. After moving to the Twin Cities, he became active at Grace Lutheran Church in Fridley where he taught Sunday School and the children knew him as "Mr. Pete." Pete was a frequent delegate to the convention of the Church of the Lutheran Confession. Recently Pete moved to Lake Crystal, MN where he lived with Naomi and Paul Pfeiffer who cared for him.

Pete was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Marcus Fleischer, his loving step-father, Rev. Waldemar Schuetze, and his mother Erma, nee Engel. He is survived by brothers Rev. Daniel (Barbara) Fleischer of Oakdale, MN, Rev. Paul (Laila) Fleischer of Cheyenne, WY, and Rev. Thomas Schuetze of Coloma, MI and three sisters, Ruth (Karl) Mueller of Mankato, Naomi (Paul) Pfeiffer of Lake Crystal, and Mary (Michael) Thom of New Ulm. He is survived also by many nephews and nieces by whom he was loved and in whom he took a great deal of interest.

Pete's life was a witness to the grace and mercy of the Lord who loved him and comforted his heart regularly with the message of the Gospel of forgiveness and the hope in heaven. His wait in hope, is now fulfilled with the salvation for which he looked in faith. "Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
