Laverne "Vern" Marvin Bartsch, age 83, of Madison Lake, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2013, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Rapidan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato Hospice. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Vern was born on March 18, 1929, in Rapidan Township. He was the son of Arthur and Edna (Fischer) Bartsch. Vern graduated from Rapidan High School and attended Commercial College in Mankato. He was united in marriage to Beverly Mahowald on June 25, 1954.
Vern was interested in woodwork all his life. He was employed with Neubert Millwork in Mankato from 1947 to 1963. Vern then bought a farm and went into cabinet business for himself with his wife's help. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School for a number of years. He enjoyed his time spent with his woodworking and also collected trains.
Vern is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly; son John (Dawn) Bartsch; two grandsons, Jeffrey and Michael Bartsch; step-granddaughter, Mindy St. Dennis; step-great-grandson, Mason; brother, Roy Bartsch; sister, Norma (Roland) Harms; also nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, David Harms.
