Gerald F. "Jerry" Salfer, age 78 of North Mankato, died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Pathstone Living in Mankato after a lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Paul Nolting officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Jerry was born September 28, 1932 to Joseph and Lillian (Habeck) Salfer in Mankato. From kindergarten to the eighth grade, he attended Immanuel Lutheran School, and graduated from Mankato High School in 1950. Jerry graduated Suma Cum Laude from Mankato State University in 1954. In 1955, he served in the United States Army in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1957. Jerry was employed by National Citizens Bank, Northwestern Bank, and later was president of Habinger Inc. where he retired in 1995. On August 7, 1990, he was united in marriage to Wallene Asmus at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Jerry was a member of VFW Post 950, the American Legion, Sertoma, Elks Club, and was a past president of the Mankato Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and curling.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Wallene of North Mankato; son, Todd Salfer of Garden City; daughter, Jodi (Todd) Tischer of St. Cloud; step-daughter, Jamie (William) Schluenz of Sartell; grandchildren: Katelynn, Taylor, Javlyn, Samantha, Tanner and Jillian Tischer, Lauren and Alec Schluenz.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Aunt Verona Habeck and Uncle Emil Habeck.
