Lyle James Pahl, age 77, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 8, 2010 at his home in rural Vernon Center. In February 2010, Lyle was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Lyle never stopped enjoying his family and friends, and continued to be the man we all knew and loved until God called him home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., also at Zion Lutheran Church. A private family burial will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Lyle was born at his family home in Ceresco Township, Blue Earth County to Charlie and Ida (Arndt) Pahl on August 14, 1933. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Willow Creek Lutheran Church. Lyle attended country school #74 and St. John's School in Willow Creek through the eighth grade. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1950. Lyle was united in marriage to Thelma Reid on June 22, 1952 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center, where they are still members. They moved to Sterling, Colorado after their marriage where they worked at a ranch. After 14 months they moved back to Minnesota to the home farm. Lyle loved to farm! The old adage, "If you find a job you love, you will never work a day in your life" applied to him. Lyle enjoyed life! His passions were family, friends, farming, deer hunting, camping, fishing, ice fishing, tractor pulling, motorcycling, and spending winters in Arizona.
Lyle and Thelma were blessed with five children, David (Sheila) Pahl of Amboy; Brenda (Rodney) Gens of rural Madelia; Pauline (Dean) Duffey of rural Lake Crystal; James (Peggy) Pahl of rural Vernon Center; Lisa (Paul) Graham of Lakeville; 11 grandchildren, Darrin and Matt Gens; Andrew (Danielle) Duffey; Melissa (Cole) Nelson; Alex Duffey; Adam (Amber) Pahl; Jason (Kara) Pahl; Jake Pahl; Sarah, Erica, Jesse Graham; two great-grandchildren, Grace Pahl and Ashton Smith.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ida Pahl; sisters, Juanita Altenburg and Virginia Pahl; and brother, Duane Pahl.
