Joseph M. Resner, age 68, of Rapidan, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29 from 2-4 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A gathering will follow at the Morson-Ario VFW Post 9713 on Riverfront Dr. Interment will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Arthritis Foundation, Cancer Society, or the donor's choice.
Joseph was born on July 19, 1945 in Mankato to Lenus and Esther (Conner) Resner. He attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Loyola High School in 1964. Joseph served in the United States Navy. On March 11, 1967, Joseph was united in marriage to Donna Jean Huebner. Joe was employed by Loyola, Northstar Concrete, and Carlson Craft Catalog. He was a vegetable farmer and was known for selling Resner's vegetables at the Mankato Farmer's Market. He was a concessioner at the county fairs and city celebrations in MN, S.D., and Iowa. Joe volunteered his time coaching Little League in Rapidan and was the Loyola activity bus driver. He also volunteered and helped organize the Dyslexia Men's basketball tournaments. With help from the MSU Athletic Department, they introduced Mankato to wheelchair basketball. Joe enjoyed making lefse and was most recently known as the "Lefse Man." He also enjoyed woodworking, watching sports, and bird watching. He was a member of the Mankato German Club, Luxemburg Society.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Donna of Rapidan; three children, Michael Resner of Mankato, Steven Resner of North Mankato, and Mari Kay Resner of Lake Crystal; six grandchildren, Alex Resner, Lauren and Meghan Resner, and Elizabeth, Emily, and Ashley Wright; two brothers, Larry Resner of Champlin and Jeffrey (Judy) Resner of North Mankato; aunt, Kay Resner of Wabasha; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A special thank you to the Good Thunder Fire Department Response Team, Mayo Health System and ER, St. Mary's Cardiac and Rehab, Mayo Clinic Hospice, and Oaklawn Health Care Center for their loving care of Joe. The family would also like to thank family and friends for their help, cards, prayers, and visits during his illness. A special thank you to Pastor Petersen for his comforting prayers.
