After a courageous battle with cancer of nearly six years, William (Bill) Robert Rigdon died peacefully September 15, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Mankato. Funeral Mass will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bill was born November 2, 1938 in Norseland, MN to Kenneth and Helen Rigdon. He was the third of twelve children. He attended Tivoli grade school and graduated from Saint Clair High School in 1956. Bill was a member of the National Guard for six years and drove semi-truck for 39 years (Murphy, Roadway Express), retiring in 2000.
On May 20, 1961, he married Joann Kramer of Waseca, MN with whom he raised four sons in Mankato, MN. Family was of utmost importance to Bill. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and also volunteering at St. Peter & Paul's Church. An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by both parents and two brothers; Bob (Sharon) and Pat (Joan). Left to lovingly remember him are his wife, Joann; children: Randy (Nancy), Rick (Michelle), Ryan, Rob (Gina); ten grandchildren; nine siblings: Charles (Arlene), Collette (Don) Metzger, Jim, Judy (Ron) Dare, Ron (Connie), Joyce (Pat) Shain, Mike (Kathy), Ann (Dean) Nickels, David (Sharman); and many nieces and nephews.
