Cheryl Joy (Hexum) Rogers, age 66 of North Mankato, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato.

At Cheryl's request, private services will be held. Cheryl's wish for memorials was that a tree or perennial flower be planted in her memory in your yard or a local park. Mankato Mortuary assisted the family.

Cheryl was born September 2, 1947 in Hendricks, MN to Lowell and Joyce (Dorn) Hexum. She graduated from Hendricks High School in 1965, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education from Mankato State University in 1969. In 1981, Cheryl completed her Master's degree in Family Life, Child Development and Parenting Education at Mankato State University. She taught in Fairfield, California and at Mankato West High School. Cheryl worked as a technical assistant for the Minnesota State Department of Education, as an In-home Family Counselor for Gerard of Minnesota. She was an Assistant Professor and Adjunct Faculty member in the Family Consumer Science Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Cheryl enjoyed horses, cats, dogs, caring for plants, gardening, cooking and entertaining. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in North Mankato and Phi Epsilon Omicron, an honorary professional organization. Cheryl was a host mother to ten foreign exchange students and support coordinator for the AFS Student Exchange Program. She was a volunteer with the Children's Pediatric Hippo Therapy Program.

Cheryl is survived by her son, Jason (Shelly) Rogers and their son, Cooper Rogers of Chanhassen, MN; father, Lowell Hexum; sisters, Jeanne (David) Nielson of Aurora, SD and Wendy (Steve) Condor of Longmont, CO; brother, Michael (Mona) Hexum of Fort Yates, ND; special friend, Jarrett Sharp; and nine nieces and nephews.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Hexum and sister, Wanda Johnston.
