JoAnn Marie (Browne) Johnson, age 81 of Mankato and formerly of Lake Crystal, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at Laurel's Edge Assisted Living with her family by her side.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at her daughter's home at 19262 Englewood Road in rural Lake Crystal. Visitation will start at 11:00a.m., followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at 2:00p.m. at the Lake Crystal Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Charles A. Johnson (Gus II) Scholarship Fund, Alzheimer's Association, or donor's choice. Arrangements were handled by the Mankato Mortuary.
JoAnn Marie was born February 16, 1932 to Gerald Wier and Maurine (Heiser) Browne in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato High School and attended the Mankato Commercial College. JoAnn was united in marriage to Charles A. Johnson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato on July 21, 1950. They had one child, daughter Suzette Elaine, born in December 1951. JoAnn was a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a gourmet cook, lived to sew, knit, do needlework, and read. She and Charles traveled throughout the United States with the Citizens Scholarship Fund. The toured the British Isles and Scotland and attended the Arabian Horse Sale in Poland. She spend many weekends and Mother's Days at various horse shows cheering her daughter on. She was a receptionist for Edna Pringle in Lake Crystal and for the Johnson, Anderson & Zellmer Law Office.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Suzette Johnson; brother, Douglas Browne; brother-in-law, Carl (Janet) Johnson, sister-in-law, Brenda Anderson; nieces and nephews, Lee (Patti) Browne, Elaine (Brett) Sundell, Mike Browne, Julie (Anderson) Pirron, Scott (Denise) Anderson, Eric (Colleen) Anderson; and many great-nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles in 2000; parents; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas & Rita Browne; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine & Robert Baumgartner; sister, Elaine Browne; infant brother, George Browne; brother-in-law, Jerry Anderson; and nephew, Richard Baumgartner.
