Roy R. Burnett, age 98, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2013 at Belgrade United Methodist Church, North Mankato with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Burial will be at Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 " 4 p.m., Sunday at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Belgrade United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.
Roy Burnett was born March 27, 1915 to Harry and Mable (Peterson) Burnett in Mankato, Minnesota. Roy farmed in Belgrade Township his entire life. Roy was united in marriage to Ruth Lundin in 1941 and they celebrated 72 together. Roy served three terms on the REA board. In 1935 he showed Grand Champion Steer at the Junior Livestock Show in South St. Paul. He rode in a box car along with other showing pigs, chickens, and steers. He also restored Oliver Tractors showing them the past 24 years at Pioneer Power in Le Sueur, MN.
Roy was very active at his church serving on the building committee that built the present church and was also on the Pastor Parrish Committee. He served on the Citizens committee prior to the building East High School and South Central College. Roy was a member of Golden Kiwanis since 1987 and later Kato Community Club.
Roy loved to play golf which he started at the age of 75. He liked fishing in Canada and traveling. His favorite trips being Hawaii and Alaska. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Roy is survived by his wife, Ruth of North Mankato; three children, Barbara (Jim) Unverzagt of Papillion, NE, Bruce (Judy) Burnett of North Mankato, Kay (Dean) Ulrich of Good Thunder; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; sister-in-law, Leona Burnett.
Preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Viola, Vivian, Gladys, and Wanita; two brothers, Raymond and Roger.
