Lyle Howard Roberts, age 86, of Mankato and formerly of Garden City, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Mankato Mortuary, 1001 N. Riverfront Drive, Mankato, with Rev. Donohue Sarff, officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the mortuary. Burial with military honors will be in Garden City Cemetery. Memorials may given to the National Parkinson Foundation or the donor's choice.

Lyle was born November 13, 1927 to Robert Leslie and Hazel Ann (Jones) Roberts in Judson. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1945. He served his country with the U.S. Navy from November 1945 to September 1947. On June 30, 1962, Lyle was united in marriage to LuElla Joyce (McMonagle) James at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Garden City. Lyle was employed with Kranz Implement in Amboy, Ray's Standard Service in Garden City, and then self-employed in construction which he started with Rex Wendt. Lyle was a member of the Mankato Moose Lodge, Eagle's, and the Lake Crystal American Legion. He was an avid sports fan playing with the Garden City Town Team baseball as the catcher. Lyle and LuElla had season tickets to the Vikings for many years and bowled in many leagues. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Lyle is survived by his stepson, E. William "Bill" (Margaret) James of Garden City; grandson, William T. "Billy" James of Lake Crystal; grandson, Richard Forseth of North Mankato; two great-grandchildren, Lukas Forseth of St. Paul and Lyssa Forseth of North Mankato; five sisters, Lorraine Jeppesen of Westminster, CA, Lillian O'Donnell of Los Angeles, CA, Aline (Gary) Kranz of Amboy, Roberta (David) Johnson of Amboy, Barbara Cifarelli of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Betty Roberts Dorn of North Mankato; brother-in-law, Eugene (Helen) McMonagle of Madelia; many nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LuElla on January 17, 2011; granddaughter, Renee James Forseth; brother, William "Bill" Roberts; sister, Murial in infancy; three brothers-in-law, Marlin Jeppesen, Lee O'Donnell, and Phil Cifarelli.
