Dennis B. Barron, age 70, of North Mankato passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour before service on Saturday. Inurnment will be in Mason City, Iowa at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester.

Dennis was born October 8, 1943 in Mason City, IA the son of Milton and Lillian (Kerdus) Barron. Dennis graduated from Mason City High School in 1962 and from Mason City Junior College in 1964. He then continued his education at Mankato State College and graduated with a BA degree. Denny went on to graduate school at MSC and became an instructor there for many years.

He married his high school sweetheart, Ione Wisman in 1968 at Wesley Methodist Church in Mason City. They made their home in North Mankato where they have lived for 45 years.
Denny loved sports, especially football and baseball. He also enjoyed traveling, computers, flower gardening, bird watching, and wintering in Florida with Ione. Denny and Ione loved the 35 summers spent at their cabin near Battle Lake, MN where they made many long time great friends. Denny was a past member of the Minnesota State Driver's Education Association and the Mankato Sertoma Club where he had served as a past president.

For 20 years, Denny and Ione owned a popcorn business called Big Bopper's Popper in Otter Tail County where they spent their summers. Denny was widely known for his humor and friendly personality. These traits helped to make the popcorn business very successful.
In 1996, after being diagnosed with kidney failure, Denny received a kidney from his wife, Ione. He enjoyed good health for the many years following the kidney transplant.

Denny is survived by his wife, Ione; brother, John and his fianc"e, Rosalyn Calhoun of Mason City, IA; his brother-in-law, Ted Wisman and his wife, Linda of Mason City, IA; his sister-in-law, Carol Merritt and her husband, Ira of Huntsville, AL; four nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews and many dear friends.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Lillian Barron; his sister-in-law, Lynne Wisman; a nephew, Bob Wisman; and a niece, Melinda Merritt.
