James Thomas Carroll, age 75 of Mankato, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 surrounded by his family at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4 " 7 p.m., Monday at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospice or St. John the Baptist Church.

Jim was born January 30, 1938 to John and Helen (Hinges) Carroll in Eau Claire, WI. He graduated from Regis High School and enlisted in the Navy. He served in the Navy four years as a medic. He married Pam Douglas in 1961. They had four children. He married Chris (Dewanz) June 21, 1997. They had 26 great years together.

Jim started in the insurance industry working for American Republic and that was followed by twelve years at Mutual of Omaha. He started the Carroll Insurance Agency in 1980 and was the top producer for many companies and earned numerous awards. Jim enjoyed competitive golf, cards and pool. He was a long time member of the Mankato Golf Club and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Many afternoons he could be found on the golf course or at Charley's restaurant playing cards. He also loved to putter in his yard and was proud of his perfectly groomed lawn.

Jim loved to engage with people, he had an easy smile and a quick wit. Jim enjoyed cookies and candy. He never met a chocolate chip cookie he didn't like.

Jim loved to be in the company of family. He was a proud father and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife, Chris Carroll of Mankato; four children, Shelley (Mike) Nelson of Cannon Falls, MN, Greg (Rebecca) Carroll of Carlsbad, CA, Tom Carroll of Clarksburg, WV, Kevin (Laurie) Carroll of North Mankato; nine grandchildren, Carly, Emily, Cameron, Ashley, Nicholas, Breanna, Joseph, Jacqueline, and Danielle; six siblings, Bob (Ann) Carroll of Eau Claire, WI, Joanne Hull of Waterloo, IA, Michael Carroll of Peoria, IL, Patty (Ken) Lokken of Eau Claire, WI, Margaret (Michael) Olson of Osceola, WI, Kathy (Patrick) Kenehan of Milwaukee, WI; nieces, nephews, cousins, and the mother of his children, Pam Paul.
