Lawrence Mathews Morris, age 96, of Mankato, passed on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

In accordance with Gus' wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. If desired memorials may be directed to Pathstone Living in Mankato or the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice Program. Mankato Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

Lawrence was born April 14, 1917 to Albert "A.B." and Della (Mathews) Morris in Palatine, IL. The family moved to Mankato when he was a young boy and he graduated from Mankato High School in 1935. He continued his education, graduating from Mankato State Teachers College with a Bachelors of Education Degree in 1939.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Allison M. Adamson on August 14, 1940 at the home of her parents in Mankato. This year they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. After their marriage they moved to Mora, Minnesota where Lawrence taught school until joining the Army Air Corps in 1943 where he taught celestial navigation to pilots heading overseas.
After the war, he moved back to Mankato and worked for Carney Insulation Company. He then started the Morris Employment Agency finding jobs for many who still remember him today. He then joined Lloyd Management Company, until his retirement.

He enjoyed fishing and playing cards (Pfeifer) but his real passion was golf. As a youth he caddied at the Mankato Golf Club, then became a member for over 50 years, during which time he served terms as a Director and President. The highlight of his game came when in his 70's over a period of a few months he scored three holes-in-one.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 73 years, Allison; daughter, Barbara (John) Rottunda of Mankato; son, James (Lynn) Morris of Evanston, Illinois; grandchildren, David (Amy) Lyons of Chanhassen, Lori (Greg) Reynolds of LaGrange, Illinois, Molly (Brad) Sween of San Francisco, and Douglas (Maureen) Morris of Sydney, Australia; six great-granddaughters, Riley Lyons, Grace, Isabelle, and Chloe Reynolds, Madeline and Abigail Sween; brother, Robert Morris of Evanston, Illinois.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Morris; and sister-in-law, Louise Morris.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the kind care of the staff at Pathstone Living.
