Marlin Arthur Sombke, age 75, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Good Thunder. Visitation will be held from 4 " 8 p.m., Wednesday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Marlin was born June 13, 1938 to Arthur and Alma (Marks) Sombke in Mankato, Minnesota.
He was united in marriage to Beverly Schubbe on September 15, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton. Marlin was a dedicated farmer his whole life raising hogs, sheep, and crops. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder where he was a trustee with the church for many years. He also was a member of LLL and served on the board of the Mapleton Community Home. He also served many years on the Lyra Township Board.

Marlin was a talented man who loved to build, weld, and fix things for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his family and hunting with the guys. Later in life, he enjoyed his John Deere Gator and giving his dog Nellie rides to check on crops and family. Marlin also enjoyed cooking and grilling, and was always ready to help his children, grandchildren, and neighbors. He loved his children very much and was so proud of his seven grandchildren.

Marlin is survived by his wife, Beverly Sombke of Good Thunder; two children, Christine (Kevin) FitzSimmons, Paul (Ellen) Sombke all of Good Thunder; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Louis) FitzSimmons-Olsen, of Kenosha, WI, Jessica FitzSimmons and partner, Dinesh Vesra of Washington D.C., Megan FitzSimmons of Fargo, ND, Joshua Sombke and Samuel Sombke of Good Thunder, Luke and Marc Sombke of Mapleton; sister Margaret Ganzel of Mankato, MN; aunt Gertrude Marks of Good Thunder, MN; brother-in-law Lynn (Myrna) Braun of North Mankato; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Sombke; son, John Sombke; two infant siblings; brother-in-law, Kenneth Ganzel; sister-in-law, Marilyn Braun.
