Al Meyer, age 72, of Mankato, died peacefully surrounded by family on April 23, 2026.
Memorial Service will be held on May 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 prior to the service. Private family burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to VINE or River of Life Lutheran Church, St. Peter.
Al was born on January 3, 1954 to Marvin and Sally Meyer. He grew up in Wells graduating in 1972. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Sill in Oklahoma and Germany. In 1976 he married the love of his life, Sandy Burns and they moved to Mankato to start their life together. Al graduated from MAVTI majoring in Machine Tool and Die. He was employed at Hiniker Company for 42 years. After retirement Al volunteered proudly at the VINE Thrift Store. He loved sports and played on Mankato Area softball teams for many years. He coached his children’s baseball teams and helped out with any sports events as needed. Woodworking was a hobby he enjoyed and had his own set up in his garage.
Al will be remembered for his humbleness and as the guy who always helped if someone asked. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Al is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Michael (Jenice) and their children, Dylan and Madeline, Benjamin (Kathy) and their children, Bailey, Emily, and Brandon, and Sarah (Steve) Peterson and their children, Ally, Makayla, and Isabelle; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen Meyer, Doris Fuchs, and Kathy (Jerry) Schultz; nieces and nephews, Chris, Matt, Jerry, Jenny, Ryan, and Brandee; brother-in-law, Tim Burns; and sister-in-law, Patty Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordy; and brother-in-law, Ron Fuchs.
