Alan "Al" B. Christianson

April 10, 1966 — July 30, 2025

North Mankato, MN

Alan “Al” Christianson, age 59, of North Mankato, MN, passed away surrounded by those who loved him.

A Celebration of Al’s life will be held at Sibley Park in Mankato, MN, date and time to be determined. Guests are invited to wear Hawaiian shirts in his honor and share memories that celebrate the joy he brought into our lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something kind for someone else – just like Al would have.

Al was born on April 10, 1966 to Janice Christianson (Hance) and the late Calvin Christianson, and grew up with his older sister, Karla. Their family spent summers on Diamond Lake, where Al learned to water ski, boat, and form deep bonds with what he lovingly called his, “Diamond Lake family.” That lake remained his sanctuary – his favorite place – for the rest of his life.

In high school, Al was part of a tight-knit group of friends who became like brothers. Those friendships lasted a lifetime – full of laughs, loyalty, and memories that will live on through the stories they shared.

He met the love of his life, Kristy, and they were married in September of 1995. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, raising three children: Calvin, Mitchell, and Paige. They were partners in everything – best friends for more 30 years – and were looking forward to retiring together next year.

Al worked for MDOT (Minnesota Department of Transportation) for many years, where he was known for his dedication, work ethic, and easygoing nature. But nothing made him prouder than being “Bapa” to his first grandson, Roy, born in January of 2024. The bond between them was instant and deep – Al was Roy’s favorite person, and he wore that title with pure joy.

He was a proud Viking’s fan (even when they lost), and loved life fully – in Hawaiian shirts, at the grill, on the lake, or just laughing with friends and family. He was always there for his people. Whether you were family by blood or by bond, Al took care of you. He loved hard, gave generously, and never missed a chance to make someone smile.

Al is survived by his wife, Kristy; their children, Calvin, Mitchell, and Paige; grandson, Roy; mother, Janice; sister, Karla; mother-in-law, Grace Toegel; many nieces and nephews; a wide, beautiful circle of extended family and lifelong friends; and his loyal dog, Trixie.

He is preceded in death by his father, Calvin Christianson and father-in-law, Roy Toegel.
