Alex David Durenberger

Alex David Durenberger, lifelong Mankato resident, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at his home in Mankato at the age of 42.

A visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, January 29, 2021 at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Drive, Mankato). Memorial Mass will be 11am, Saturday, January 30, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Alex was born on September 4, 1978 in Mankato to David and Leonette “Lee” (Bennett) Durenberger. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1997 and graduated from South Central College in 2001 with a degree in Marketing.

A few words to describe Alex include helpful, generous, kind, big-hearted, quick-witted, and rarely serious. He had a great sense of humor and could make anyone smile. He was very thoughtful and loved helping others. Whether it was offering to help buy Christmas presents or finding a much needed item, Alex was always the first to offer a helping hand. He was a strong influence in his niece’s lives, Eden and Macy. He loved picking them up from school and spending time together at home. They lovingly called him “Unkie” and he was so proud to help raise them.

Alex is survived by his parents, Lee and David Durenberger of Mankato; older brother, Nicholas Durenberger of Mankato; nieces, Eden Durenberger (14) and Macy Durenberger (11) of Mankato and their mom, Holly Holmgren; 9 aunts and uncles; and many cousins, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; one uncle; and one aunt.
