Arleen E. Hanson

Arleen E. Peters Hanson passed away on July 7, 2023 at the age of 93.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church prior to the service. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Mapleton, MN. Arleen was born on November 17, 1929 to Otto and Lillian (Malzhan) Peters in Good Thunder, MN. Arleen was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. After graduating high school class of 1948, she married Herbert Hanson on December 10, 1948 and both were blessed to raise one son and three daughters.

Together the couple farmed and operated the Rapidan Dam Store from 1952-1955. They moved to Stordan, MN until 1958. Mapleton has been their home ever since. Arleen has always been a hard worker and eager to help support her family. She had many jobs through the years working in the Mapleton community in food service, custodial and retail.

Arleen was very active at St. John Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, member of the ELCA women’s group and morning bible study. She loved to play cards with her friends, bowling in her earlier years and a member of the American Legion. She was a lifetime member of the Mapleton VFW Auxiliary Post 5338, holding various leadership positions for many years.

Arleen and Herbert enjoyed their vacation time camping with the family and friends. Retirement was often enjoyed visiting friends and family in Texas and Arizona.

Arleen’s written quotation recently stated “My greatest treasures are my children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a very loving husband”.

Arleen is survived by son, Dennis (Kristine) Hanson of Norwalk, IA; daughters, Candace (Don) Herrlich of Kenyon, MN, Janet (David) Dietz of Ponte Verde, FL, and Amy (Don) Gabler of Mapleton, MN. Her very special grandchildren, Emilie (Jason) Brown, Martha (Charlie) Koopman, Aanna (Brandon) Hoch, Jenny (Matt) McRoberts, Sara (Teague) Westrope, Michael (Angela) Dietz, Christian (Candice) Dietz, Joel (Marisa) Dietz, Jonathan (Danielle) Gabler, Jessica Gabler and 23 great grandchildren.

Arleen was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 grandchildren, John and Joy Herrlich, and her beloved husband, Herbert, married 53 years.
