Betty Michels

Betty Michels, age 91, of North Mankato, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022. Betty was born in Germany. She and her husband, Donald, farmed together in Belgrade Township. Betty served as a devoted volunteer for many years, assisting with bowling at MRCI, helping at the Bloodmobile, serving as an election judge for city and school district elections, and volunteering at Hoover Elementary School. Betty served as both a Friend of the Library and as a volunteer at Pathstone for twenty years. Betty and Donald delivered Meals on Wheels for over a decade. Betty won several awards for her service, including Lutheran Home Volunteer of the Year in 2004, Volunteer of the Year for Blue Earth County in 2008, and the Modern Woodmen Hometown Hero in 2013.

 

Betty is survived by 3 daughters, Debra (Dave), Barbara (Paul), and Brenda (Phil); 2 granddaughters; and grandson-in-law. Also survived by sister, Anna Bidowski; brother, Alfred Vogel (Otti); sister-in-law, Mary Michels; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; sister and husband, Hermine and Karl Pfenninger; brothers-in-law, Peter Bidowski and Glen Michels; and sister-in-law and husband, Dorothy and Everett Nelson.

 

A private family service and interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church of North Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. www.mankatomortuary.com.
