Carol Irene Oney, age 77 of Mankato, died January 11, 2026, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
A Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held from 1-3 p.m., April 12, 2026, at Mankato Mortuary. Family interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Carol was born on March 10, 1948, in Viborg, South Dakota, to Oliver and Ardis (Nelson) Jensen. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1966 and attended Mankato State College, graduating with majors in Art and Art History. She then continued her education at MSC earning a masters degree in Library Science.
She married Gary Oney on October 6, 1973 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. She spent several years working for the Blue Earth County Historical Museum. In later years she was employed by Target as a cashier.
Both Carol and Gary served as members of the South Bend Volunteer Fire Department and were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Mankato. Carol was an avid reader, enjoying literature of many genres, as well as reading the Mankato Free Press from front page to back. She was a gifted artist and a collector…Mice figurines, Campbell Soup Kids, and Pillsbury Dough Boys were just a few of her collections.
Carol is survived by her sisters; Brenda (Roger) Swanson of Albert Lea; Judy Busman of Chandler; Ramona (Doug) Jacobson of Chanhassen; nieces and nephews; Kristy (Kaleb) Hurley and their children, Jairus, Zoe and Izara; Jeff (Erin) Swanson; Jessamy (Jesus) Gonzalez, Andy (Stephanie) Busman and their sons, Weston and Rylan, Megan Busman; Kirsten (Alex) Zaepfel), and Gunnar Jacobson.
Carol was preceded in death by Gary, her husband of 47 years; her parents, Oliver and Ardis Jensen; in-laws, Rosella and Fred Stuemke, and Harold and Alberta Oney; sister, Annette Jensen; brother-in-law, Irving Busman; nephew-in-law, Eric Schaap; grandparents, Richard and Minnie Nelson and Walter and Elsie Jensen.
