Charlotte V. Meschke

Charlotte V. Meschke, 68, of Mankato, formerly of Rapidan, passed away Monday, November 23, 2020.

Memorial Service 11:30 a.m., Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Mankato.  Family interment will be in Richland Cemetery, Adams County, North Dakota.  Memorials may be given to the Minnesota Chapter of the MS Society or Resurrection Lutheran Church.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte was born August 26, 1952, in Hettinger, ND to Herbert and Bernice (Marple) Quamme.  She graduated from Hettinger High School in 1970 and moved to Mankato to attend Johnson Cosmetology School.  She worked for a time at G & O Cafe and as a playground aide at Rapidan Elementary School. 

On June 28, 1975, she married Eugene “Gene” Meschke at Rapidan.  She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis around 1978, but didn’t let that stop her from taking care of her family and home.  She was active in Calvary Lutheran Church, Word of Life Free Lutheran Church, and later Resurrection Lutheran Church, as much as she was able, teaching Sunday school for many years.  She enjoyed reading, baking, listening to music, spending time with family, and telling funny jokes and puns.  MS may have taken many abilities from her, but it never took away her positive outlook and her unwavering faith in God.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Gene of Rapidan; son, Terry Meschke of Albert Lea; daughter, Helen Meschke of Rapidan; and granddaughter, Lilian Meschke of Mankato; brothers, Edward Quamme of Hettinger, ND, Robert (Barbara) Quamme of East Grand Forks, MN; mother-in-law, Lois Meschke of Northfield, MN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lois Quamme of Grand Forks, ND, George Door of Mankato, Beverly Meschke of Cypress, TX, Bunny (Terry) Erickson and Eric Meschke all of Rapidan, Anita (George) Jimenez of Albuquerque, NM, Karen (Mark) Lund of Cannon Falls, MN, Peter (Cindy) Meschke, Philip Meschke, Tim (Arlene) Meschke all of Oxnard, CA, Keith (Lakshmi) Meschke of Gilbert, AZ, Diane (Greg) Adams of Manchester, CT, Julie (Jeff) Dudgeon of Gresham, OR; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcelyn Door; brother, Lynn Quamme, and parents-in-law, Emery Meschke and Mahlon and Mary Dahle.

Charlotte’s family would like to send sincere thanks to all of her caregivers over the past 14 years.  We are eternally grateful for the love, care, and compassion shown to her and us.
