Chrissie was born March 20, 1979 in Mankato to Craig and Susan (Nowacki) Woodward. She attended Holy Rosary grade school, Fitzgerald Middle School, and graduated from Loyola High School. After a year at MSU Mankato, Chris decided to spread her wings and moved to Colorado Springs. She was offered a job at the Broadmoor, and then at South Side Johnnie’s. The winter slopes took their toll on Chrissie, but she didn’t let a broken arm keep her from working. She was offered a job by a bar owner from Chicago who was impressed that she was serving more drinks with one hand than the other bartenders were with two. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Chrissie took a leave from work and left for New Orleans. She drained her bank account, rented a U-Haul, and bought supplies for displaced people. She and several other workers fed thousands through food care services. She stayed in New Orleans for nearly a year. Next stop was Lake Tahoe for the ski season, and then on to Breckenridge to help open a ski resort. After Colorado, Chris was asked to move to Montauk on Long Island, NY where she worked at Gurney’s for several years. Once Covid hit, she decided that Montauk wasn’t the best place to be and decided to come home to Mankato.
Chris was always available to travel. She loved Lake Kabetogama but also was able to go overseas. She was fortunate to visit France. She traveled with her brother Mark and friends in Vietnam and Thailand.
In their younger days, on trips to cowboy country, Cass and Chrissie tried horseback riding, but Chris was bucked off, which ended those ventures.
Chris had a kind heart. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors. We know memories of Chris will shine brightly forever.
Her dog Yemaya will be happy to see her again.
Christin is survived by her parents, Craig and Susan Woodward of Mankato; sister, Cassie (special friend, Karl Schwartz) Woodward of Mankato; brother, Mark (Yoojin) Woodward of Burnsville; nephew, Emerson Woodward; niece, Addy Woodward; aunts and uncles, Genee Johnson of Ames, IA, Mary (Dave) Haack of North Mankato, Dan Nowacki of Hot Springs, SD, and Pete (Lori) Nowacki of Elko, MN.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as her uncle, Dick Johnson.
