Dale B. Barrie

July 6, 1936 — August 15, 2025

Mankato

Dale B. Barrie, age 89, of Mankato, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, after living with Parkinson's disease for the past decade.

Born on July 6, 1936, in Currie, Minnesota, Dale was the youngest of five children to Ambrose and Margaret Barrie. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary High School, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Earhart. They were married on October 11, 1958, and soon after, they moved to Mankato, where they raised their six children.

Dale was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He and Barbara were a team in both life and business, owning and operating lunch mobiles and a liquor store together. Dale also worked a variety of other jobs before beginning his four-decade-long career at Tire Associates, from which he retired at age 79. He was also a proud member of the Mankato Police Reserves.

A man of deep faith, Dale was an active member of both Ss. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church and later, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. His commitment to his faith was evident through his service to the community, where he volunteered as a sacristan, eucharistic minister, and usher. He also dedicated his time to Ss. Peter and Paul's Faith Formation program and parish fund drives for both churches.

Dale was a huge supporter of the Mankato Area Catholic Schools community. All six of his children graduated from either Good Counsel Academy or Loyola, and he was honored for his dedication by being inducted into the Loyola Hall of Fame and receiving the Distinguished Alumni Word and Worship Award.

In his free time, Dale enjoyed a vibrant social life. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of a card club, playing with the same group of friends for over 46 years. After he retired, their gatherings became a weekly highlight.

Known for his kind heart and great sense of humor, Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; his parents; his sisters, Elizabeth, Norma, and Noreen; and his brother, Laurel.

Dale is survived by his six children: Jackie (Tony) Spano, Steve (Mary) Barrie, Mike (Lynn) Barrie, Joan (Gary) Daigle, Ann (Trent) Schull, and Jennifer (Brette) Hjelle. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Barrie family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Ecumen Pathstone Assisted Living and Long Term Care in Mankato for their compassionate care.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 S. Broad St., Mankato.
