Dale Robert Nickel, age 73, of Mankato passed away on October 3, 2023, at Laurels Peak. Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Mountain Lake Cemetery. Livestreaming of the service will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com

Dale was born on August 29, 1950, in St. Paul, MN. His parents, Walter and Clara Nickel raised Dale in Mountain Lake and he graduated from Mountain Lake High School. Dale worked on the family farm, at Happy Chef, Bethany Lutheran College and he also lived in Worthington, MN. The latter part of his life he lived at Laurels Peak where he enjoyed going to Bible study, picking out hymns to sing along to and attending activities. Dale’s faith was very important to him, and he was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato.

Accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior at Bible camp was his favorite memory. He shared this important part of his life with others and expressed his beliefs with others as he wanted them to know Jesus.

As Dale’s health declined, he relied on his faith to get him through each day, praying for his health every day. He requested prayer from those who supported him and was thankful for those who spent time praying for and with him.

The Pow-Wow in Mountain Lake was an important event for Dale. He spent his life attending the event and promoting it. For years he circulated posters to advertise the event and he attended when able. Dale felt he had an obligation to promote his hometown celebration, and many attended after seeing the posters.

Sports played a role in Dale’s life. He was able to give stats on all sports – Twins, Timberwolves, Wild, and the Vikings. He knew the players, schedules, and rankings. Watching sports on tv was a favorite pastime.

Dale would like to thank those who cared for him throughout the years. He sent out Christmas cards to residents and staff each year to express his gratitude for their care and to point people to the birth of his Savior.
