Daniel Jon Scheurer

Daniel Jon Scheurer, 84, of North Mankato, MN, passed away on March 18 at home surrounded by family. He was born on October 23, 1941, in Mankato, MN.

Daniel dedicated much of his life to his work and community. At Mankato State College, he lettered in football, served as president of Delta Sigma Pi, and earned a triple major in Business Administration, Political Science, and Speech. He later co-owned CW Scheurer & Son’s Construction Company in Mankato, retiring after 40 years.

A true community man, he loved his family and made a lasting impact through his dedication to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and all those he helped over the years.

He was active in many community organizations, serving as president of the Mankato Jaycees and the Twin Valley Council, and on the Boards of Directors of American State Bank, the MRCI Foundation, and Shoreland Country Club. He founded Boy Scouts of America Troop #35 at Marysburg Church and served as Scoutmaster, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout himself. He was also a member of the Elks Club and Moose Club and sang in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church choir.

He enjoyed time on Lake Washington and at Pinecrest, skiing, golfing with buddies, motorcycling, traveling, family holidays, and playing cards – always by his own rules.

Daniel was previously married to Sharon McLean. He later married Sylvia McCarty in 1991 during a memorable Halloween blizzard.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia McCarty Scheurer; daughter, Kristin (Scott Barley) Scheurer; son, Duane (Marge) Scheurer; stepdaughter, Erin McCarty; stepsons, Jason (Sarah) McCarty and Jamie McCarty; sisters Sister Kathy, Sister Mary, and Carolyn (James) Rovney; sister’s-in-law, Joanne and Bev.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement Scheurer and Anastasia Leonard Scheurer; his first wife, Sharon Scheurer; brothers, Thomas, Mark, and Paul Scheurer; sisters, Monica Scheurer and Jane Scheurer-Trondson; sons, David and Kevin Scheurer; and daughter, Martha Scheurer.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 S. Broad Street, Mankato. A luncheon will follow the Mass. A private family burial will take place.
