Darren Valgean Johnson, 51, of North Mankato, died October 16, 2022 at his home from a diabetic reaction.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022 at St. Peter North Elementary School, 815 N 9th St, in St. Peter. The family prefers memorials be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.

Darren was born November 14, 1970 to Valgean and Gail (Overby) Johnson in Hendricks, Minnesota. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1989. He received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Darren worked as an elementary teacher at the North Elementary School in St. Peter. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, spending time with his children and his dog, Boston, telling jokes, and cooking. Darren had a love for teaching and his students. He will be greatly missed by his family, coworkers, and students.

Darren is survived by his children, Griffen, Fletcher, Pippi, and Liberty Johnson; parents, Valgean and Gail Johnson of Pipestone, Minnesota; siblings, Dana (Doyle) Trankel of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Matthew (Erin) Johnson of Alexandria, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, Chris, Corey, Collin (Samantha), Trey, Jase, Reid, and Quinn; and great grandmother, Coralie Overby of Hendricks, Minnesota.
