SERVICE INFORMATION

Please join a virtual Celebration of Life to honor David Winslow Allan on Sunday, September 19 at 1:00 pm. David passed away on June 29, 2021. David’s remains, along with those of his beloved wife Nancy who passed in 2018, will be interred in a private ceremony following the service. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Nancy Allan Art Fund of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato (UUFM). David Winslow Allan, Ph. D., age 83, died June 29, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

David was an active member at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato, 937 Charles Avenue, Mankato, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

David was born June 27, 1938 to Charles and Ethel (Baker) Allan in Springfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1956. He held multiple advanced degrees including a doctorate in media physiology. On February 16, 1963, he married Nancy Jensen. Together they raised two children, Douglas and Elizabeth.

In 1974, David and his family moved to Mankato where he took a position at Mankato State University in the Memorial Library. He retired in 2001. Following retirement, David and Nancy owned and operated Winslow Woodcarving Studio for many years making many signs for towns and businesses in the area. In his free time, David enjoyed woodworking, painting, the outdoors, and traveling with Nancy.

David is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Reid Rasmussen (Timothy) of Blue Earth, Minnesota; grandsons, Gregory and Reid Rasmussen of North Mankato, Minnesota; son, Douglas Thomas Allan (Witney) of Rosemount, Minnesota; granddaughter, Ivy Mae Allan and grandson Sam Frederick Allan; brother, Craig R. Allan of Joppa, Maryland; and nephews, Laird and Reid Allan.

David was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Nancy in 2018.
