It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Allan Knowles, who left us on June 2, 2025, just a few days shy of his 76th birthday. Born on June 6, 1949, in Madelia, MN, David was a loving husband, a proud father, and a true friend to many. David grew up in Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School in 1968. Right after high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Parsons and USS Orleck. He was later honorably discharged after four years. After his time in the service, he dabbled in carpentry before pursing his education at South Central Technical College, where he earned his associate's degree in boiler operating.
Dave was united in marriage to Susan Sullivan on October 7, 1969 in Lake Crystal. For many years, David worked as a boiler operator, making a significant impact at the turkey plant in Faribault and later at Owatonna Canning, ultimately retiring from Faribault Foods. He was dedicated to his craft and took pride in a job well done. Outside of work, David was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt, especially deer hunting, enjoying the beauty of nature. He was also a proud member of the Kilkenny American Legion Post 380, where he cherished fellowship with fellow veterans. David is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Knowles; children, Russell Knowles of St. Peter, Daveon (Mikki) Knowles of Faribault, and Marcey Maloney of North Mankato; grandchildren, Adreanna, Desiree, Aiden, Emma, and Lily; sister, Sue Oeffler of Shakopee; and good friends, Robbie Dalley of Faribault and Dale and Marian Mans of Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Knowles; and nephews, Joseph Knack and Philip Oeffler.
Visitation will be held from 1-4pm, Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Drive, Mankato, MN 56001). Full military honors will be provided by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad starting at 1pm. Please share a memory of David with his family at www.mankatomortuary.com.
