Dennis McVicker

Dennis J. “Denny” McVicker, 75, of Mankato lost a two-year battle from cancer on January 2, 2022 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center. 

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Mankato Golf Club.  Private burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers or donor’s choice. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.

Denny was born on March 2, 1946, in Hampton, Iowa.  He graduated from Forest City High School.

Denny proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970 with one year served in the Vietnam War as a Platoon Sergeant in the infantry.  He was awarded the Silver Star (the third-highest military decoration) and the Bronze Star for valor in combat and was honorably discharged.

Denny attended Mankato State University pursuing an education to be a DNR conservation officer.  He sold life and health insurance for 43 years.  He loved hunting, fishing, and sitting around the campfire sharing stories on Swan Lake with his good friends, Ron Doty, John Wisniewski, and Vern Clobes.  He was a big NASCAR fan and a lifetime member of the VFW. 

In 1970, he was united in marriage to Vicky Ezarski of Brit, Iowa and they had two children. 

Denny is survived by his wife, Vicky; daughter, Lisa (Chris Cavallari), and their two daughters, Sydney and Olivia of Illinois; son, Todd (Greg Sonnier) of Florida; sisters, Leigh McVicker of Colorado and Linda Price of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Marvel Rushing of North Carolina and Carla (Glenn) Kaser of Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Mason of Missouri; brother-in-law, Roger Rushing of North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Marlene Meyers of California.

The family would like to express gratitude to Hillcrest, Mayo Clinic, and Mayo Clinic Health Hospice for the wonderful support.
